The Old Guard 2 on Netflix is now moving forward. This is the latest news about the production, as well as some details about the story.
Netflix’s The Old Guard is an action movie based on a comic book series of the same name created by writer Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández. That focuses on a group of mercenaries who are secretly immortal warriors who’ve spent centuries trying to better humanity. Netflix is moving forward with a sequel to a film that earned generally positive reviews and is the sixth most-watched Original movie of all time.
The Old Guard 2 has yet to receive a title, but here is what is known about it at the time of writing.
The Old Guard 2’s Story So Far
As with her deceased former teammate Lykon before her, Andromache “Andy” of Scythia loses her super-healing powers in The Old Guard. As a result, Andy decides to stay with her team despite knowing her days are limited. Her faith in their mission restored after James Copley. An ex-CIA operative who has spent years researching Andy’s actions through history. Reveals how Andy and the others have positively affected humankind in ways they could never imagine.
They task Copley, your former CIA officer, with using his experience in order to cover (physical and digital) their tracks and find work for them that will benefit humanity. Joined by Nile Freeman, a former U.S. marine and their newest member. Andy and her crew give Copley the task of covering up their tracks (physical and digital) and finding meaningful work for them. The team also banishes one of their own to live by himself for a century in the first film. Booker/Sebastian Le Livre, for betraying them by telling the now-dead CEO of the pharmaceutical company about their secret.
After six months, Booker finds himself in the same boat as Andy’s former teammate Quynh. The Old Guard 2 will continue the story by revealing if Quynh wants revenge against the others since they did not rescue her or whether she has another goal in mind. As well as her plans for Booker and whether he will seek redemption for his past actions.
The Old Guard 2’s Cast & Crew
Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne will reprise their roles in The Old Guard’s sequel. Including Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker, Chiwetel Ejiofor as James. Veronica Ngo as Quynh, and Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli as Andy’s teammates and the lovers Joe/Yusuf Al-Kaysani and Nicky/Nicol* di Genova. Rucka is also returning to write the sequel after writing the original film based on Fernández and his comics.
In the wake of the success of The Old Guard, Gina Prince-Bythewood has bowed out of directing the sequel due to being attached to several new projects. Including the historical action/drama The Woman King. In Victoria Mahoney’s place, who was the second unit director for The Rise of Skywalker. Along with You and Lovecraft Country, Mahoney has also directed episodes of other TV series.
According to Theron, filming for the old guard 2 will begin in the first quarter of 2022. If that is true, then the sequel could start streaming on Netflix by 2023. Perhaps during the summer like its predecessor did in 2022.
